The waterscreen added a striking visual dimension — water projection works exceptionally well as a display surface.
According to the visitor survey, by far the most popular work at the Jyväskylä City of Light festival. A music-synchronised water show and waterscreen at Mattilanniemi over three September evenings.
The Jyväskylä City of Light is one of Finland's most significant light art festivals, and the autumn 2025
event attracted over 170,000 visits in three days. Artists from seven countries participated,
and the programme featured more than 20 light art works across the city.
Twilight Magic was installed at Mattilanniemi on the shore of Jyväsjärvi. The show combined
choreographed fountains, a 15-metre wide waterscreen projection and music-synchronised lighting
into an eight-minute experience. The jets reached up to 10 metres at their highest, and the
video projection onto water added a visual layer that fountains alone cannot achieve.
In the post-event visitor survey, Twilight Magic emerged as by far the most popular work.
The festival included international light artists from Australia, Belgium, Germany and elsewhere.
The result reflects how water movement, music and projection together create an experience
that stays with people.
My role in the project was artistic direction and programming. I was responsible for the show
structure, aligning the music with the choreography, and producing the waterscreen content.
The project was delivered in collaboration with
Dancing Fountains,
who were responsible for the water technology.
The waterscreen added a striking visual dimension — water projection works exceptionally well as a display surface.
Over three evenings, Mattilanniemi filled with spectators. The show was performed several times each night.
The waterscreen was used as a visual element alongside lighting and fountains throughout the performance.
